Microbiology and Immunology

ARTDTP Research Discipline

A major interest of the Compans laboratory is the development of novel vaccines, especially those targeted to mucosal surfaces. Current projects include development of vaccines for human immunodeficiency virus, for prevention of viral hemorrhagic fever and for influenza. The group is using expression vectors to produce virus- like particles, which are being used as vaccine antigens. They are investigating immunization of mucosal surfaces as well as transcutaneous immunization with licensed vaccines using microneedle patches.
